Above and beyond for children with cancer

Survey says: What families think about our support and how it matters

Our annual survey gives all families PASIC supports the opportunity to feedback on the support they’ve received. It lets us know what we are doing well and where we can do even better for following years! It’s also a chance to show you the difference and impact our work has on families and show what your vital support goes towards.

Our Family Support Workers are the face of PASIC, seeing families in-person at children’s hospitals across the East Midlands as well as keeping digital communication to ensure families feel supported throughout their cancer journey.

“Our Family Support Worker has been such a huge support to us since diagnosis and is always checking in to make sure we’ve got everything we need or if PASIC can be of any help and it’s comforting having someone to turn to who understands us and what we’re going through.”

Our Family Support Workers also provide families with a variety of gifts and support packs, both seasonal and on-hand for when a child or young person needs a boost!

91% rated our Christmas eve boxes excellent or very good

Each Christmas we aim to make the day a little more special by sending on Christmas Eve boxes to be enjoyed the night before. It helps keep children and young people occupied and relives the pressure on families during an expensive time of the year.

“Loved our Christmas Eve box. So imaginative and fun!”

97% rated our comfort bags excellent or very good

Our comfort bags contain essentials, designed for when families have recently been diagnosed and are staying at hospital. It provides comfort by ensuring they have essential toiletries, snacks to keep them going, a blanket for comfort, activities to stay busy during a long stay and a PASIC soft toy friend!

“At the early stage of diagnosis, receiving a comfort bag really helped as it was at a time when those things were really needed.”

During long hospital stays, one way our Family Support Workers can bring a smile to child or young person’s face is by providing a gift! It can be a toy, activity pack or even an Amazon voucher to lift sprits on the ward.

90% rated our gifts from a Family Support Worker excellent or very good

“The gifts have been excellent and have sent at the right times within my daughter’s journey. They always raise a smile and make her feel special, thought about and supported.”

Alongside gifts, we also provide families with Mood Bears, Movie Night Packs and Teen Packs. Mood bears help children express and process their emotions during their cancer journey, movie night packs give the chance for friends and family to spend quality time together and teen packs are specially curated to provide an extra treat to older children.

“Our son loves the mood bear”

“The movie night pack was amazing”

A huge thank you to all the families who took part in this year survey. Your feedback is so valuable in shaping our support to make sure families facing childhood cancer get the best support possible from us.
