Above and beyond for children with cancer

Emotional support and counselling

We’re here to support your family’s mental wellbeing

Childhood cancer may affect your mental health. So we offer free talking therapy for your family during and following treatment. We also offer bereavement support.

In your sessions, you can talk openly about how you’re feeling, explore ways to cope, and build confidence to help you and your loved ones through whatever comes next.

How cancer affects a child’s mental health

Children don’t just experience the physical impact of cancer – it can take a heavy toll on their emotional wellbeing too. They may feel self‑conscious or upset about changes to their appearance. Some worry about falling behind at school or missing out on normal childhood or teenage life. And many carry fears and questions they don’t feel ready to share with their loved ones.

Cancer impacts the whole family

Parents often feel they need to stay strong for everyone else, even when they’re beyond worried and exhausted themselves. It’s vital that you have a safe space to share your concerns and feel supported too. We’re also here for siblings, who may feel frightened, confused, or pushed into the background as family life becomes centred around hospital visits and treatment.

“I would sit upstairs in the kitchen waiting for Jake to finish his sessions and I would hear him laughing, which brought tears to my eyes as it had been so long. Jake found the sessions really helpful and invaluable to help deal with his trauma.”
