Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
Family and friends will want to help but they won’t always know what to say or do. You may feel frustrated with people who avoid you because they don’t know what to say, or feel angry with family or friends who make thoughtless remarks or are too busy to give you support. However sometimes they just don’t know what to do.
Remember it’s important to look after yourself and take care of your own needs without feeling guilty. For example, eating and sleeping well, exercising if possible and taking any breaks when you can will help you cope and care for your child. Your friends and family can support you in this and in turn will be helping your child and the rest of your family who all need support too. Sometimes the smallest gesture can make a huge difference by giving you both a break, and more time to focus on your child and their treatment.
